Hi there, welcome to Dgrin wave.gif

Is 'rear flash' the same as 'second curtain sync' or something like that? I've never heard the term before to be honest, but that is the only thing I can think of.

What is it you are trying to do?

    Which flash are you using?

    What camera mode?

i dont even see why that would matter
    okay
    manual settings
so when you go to custom settings it says
    Shutter Curtain Sync.
    0:1st-curtain sync.
    1:2nd-curtain sync.

and when you put it on 2nd curtain
right once you press the shutter button down the flash goes off
and right when the shutters about to close it goes off also
    so i'm getting two flashes

and i only want one flash thats goes off right before the shutter closes

If you are only using the built-in flash of the Canon 350D/XT it has a pre-flash. That is the first flash you see. It should be relatively low output. The second flash is the actual flash of exposure. I am not aware of any way to turn off the pre-flash of that camera.

If you use a simple external flash, or any flash that has an "auto" or "manual" mode of operation, you should only see one flash emitted.
