Ready for him to leave?

That is the question I now ponder, as my oldest prepares to leave for Germany (see this thread). He should be here for at least another year, with a few months to get used to where he will go to college and so on. Instead, he is packing for 4 weeks (and prepared to stay 10 months) with 10 days notice and going across the pond.....

I am really excited and proud of him...but, then I think about Nikolai's LPS entry, sitting by the bed, missing him.

It's hard watching your babies grow up. You feel proud of what they've accomplished and the person they're becoming, but you're not necessarily ready for them to be there yet.

I've got a few years before mine begin to leave the nest, but I was having "proud mom/why do they grow so fast" thoughts just this week end about my 13 yo.

This is an amazingly rapid transition for both him and you (sprechts er Deutsch?) Good luck to both of you. Will you get a chance to go see him in Germany in the next four weeks to witness his (hopefully) success?

    cheers,

    C.

    Hey Colleen

    Thanks for the web hug!

He is gone - boarded a plane that should be half way to Frankfurt.

He is really excited, and today was nervous. Looks very much like he is up to this. Even told us when he was ready to say goodbye...

And, to top it off, his brother and sister are bickering over his room!! And there is not saying he won't be back in just a week or three!

He had a couple of 'goodbye parties' and it was really interesting to watch the variety of friends say goodbye - school friends, longtime friends and teammates all had something different to say to him.

sigh - first one has spread his wings and I didn't even notice the years since diapers......
