I'll be making another trip out this weekend -the bee keeper wants me to photograph him covered in bees for an add :cool

All Canon gear: Xti (manual mode F7.1 to F16, 1/200, ISO 100) + MPE-65mm macro lens. MT-24EX with . Images range from life size to 3x.

The bee keeper had a leaky outdoor faucet that the bees use as a watering hole.

This next photo illustrates why bees have hair growing out of their eyes. Taken at my mother in law's farm this bee is covered in pollen from a pumpkin flower:

    Ummm...
That is a lot closer to a bees nest than I'd want to get.. Or the bees for that matter. I'm not really afraid of bees, but I don't particularly like getting stung either..

I've taken a lot of bee photos and I've never been stung -but I don't swat at them when they land on me either...

Thanks Skippy. No, no protective clothing. The bee keeper pulled out one of the honey comb racks and held it while I photographed the bees -about 4 meters away from the main hive. For the 3rd image I was right next to the hive itself -moving VERY slow. Oddly enough the bee keeper was the only one that got stung (happened as soon as he took off his hood).

Only the first image. The MPE-65mm starts at life size, so it's tough to get a lot of anything in the frame sometimes ;)

    Fascinating series of shots.

I love that last frame with the pollen all over the bee. They just get themselves covered with pollen sometimes.

Agree that the bee with pollen all over him is a great shot. Not that the rest aren't also. I'd get in the hive for shots like these! thumb.gif But no macro in my bag so I'll just have to bang away at other things. :cry Michael

Wonderful set! I agree the last one is particularly striking. It looks like the little guy got curious and opened one of those silica packets that keep electronics dry. :D
