Ive noticed some pro printing sites online offer metalic prints. Its something like 15% more than an 8x10, but it gives it a differentn look. I dont think this is offered on smugmug, so I thought I would suggest it as an option.

If someone from smugmug wants a link to a site that offers this, just ask. I presume you dont want a link to a printer other than yourself on your own forum.

    Hi GerryDavid,

It's an open forum so we don't mind. I personally hear wonderful things about whcc as a printer and I'm ordering some metallic prints from them myself even though I'm in charge of printing at smugmug. :D

We haven't had any requests for metallic prints but I like them and hope EZ Prints (the printer we fulfill through) will offer them in the future.

    Thanks,
    Baldy

I ordered some metallic prints through mpix & wasn't happy with what I got back. I'm not sure if it was the quality, or just not a good print for metallic. Either way, the prints went in the trash & I re-printed on lustre paper.

Personally I think its a great option to have, but not many pics look good printed like that. I think there will be a lot of complaints and returns from people not knowing what to expect.

FYI. The Metallic print gets fingerprints very easily. Mine had fingerprints & palm prints straight from the printer. I think this happened when they mounted them to mat board.

I havent actually seen metalic prints, but ive heard good things about it from people. I plan to get some samples from a site, but im in canada right now so itll cost more to get it, I was waiting for when I moved to the states.

What sort of pictures print well on metalic?

I was thinking *and now hoping* that it would be a good gimmick for wedding pictures. Most consumers, at least here, have never heard of metalic prints. So if I was even to sell the digital negatives to a couple, I could offer metalici prints to them, friends and family and hope to get some sales that way. Since its not something they probably could do on thier own. Walmart doesnt offer it that I know of, and the the same for the other 1 hour labs around here.

So would metalic prints be good for either color or b&w wedding pictures?

You shouldnt have had th palm/finger prints on it, dont they wear protecive gloves in the lab? Since you didnt like the result and since it had that you should have sent int back at thier cost for a refund. :0)
