The Camera is just a box...

I was commenting on a friend's photo. She seems to take really nice self portraits, artsy, sometimes edgy. We chatted about photography, I asked her about her camera, etc. I told her "wow, that's a nice P&S you have, it's got all sorts of things. You can control everything manually, too, which is cool."

She said, "Yeah, it can do ANYTHING. Like black and white shots, anything!"

:scratch

The point being she was "technically clueless," shooting in auto on a nice little P&S and getting really, really great results because of her eye. Results that I could copy, but I can't yet make my own because I don't have the eye for her "studio" style.

$$$$'s of gear + humble pie = me. :cry

So much to learn. I love it! Comments?

I wouldn't put too much emphasis she could be spending a lot of time getting the shot right.
She could also just be really talented ,but that shouldn't bother you keep shooting.
I took some still adverts from a magazine and carefully reproduced them but I didn't like them because they were not mine.
Creativity comes from the heart some of us take longer then others to find it, but when they do it looks right.
