Mind sharing your shutter speed vs aperature setting?
http://nosmo.smugmug.com
It depends. For motorcycle circuit racing I normally use shutter-priority mode. Shutter-speed varies according to the scene I'm trying to capture and the lens I'm using. If it's a panning shot, across the frame, 1/250 and 1/320 are common numbers, as they are usually slow enough to leave a pleasing blur to the wheels.
For head-on shots I'll generally use faster shutter speeds, but again it depends on a number of variables.
Motocross or off-road is another matter. In my (limited) experience these are much easier to shoot because fast shutter speeds don't spoil the images the way they do on the pavement, and fast shutter speeds make it easier to capture sharp images.
Just practice, decide what you like.
The panning in particular is very nice.

Thanks, Chris. Looking at your avatar, I think we actually met on Sunday. We were both trying to get through the gate near the bridge, you from the inside, me from outside.
Good to meet you Tim...
odd wasn't it?
I talked to the SPEED cameraman and he gave me the the combo (which was of course different than the other combos we were given that weekend).
Thanks for the description of turn 7. I ended up going over there anyway but didn't find what I was looking for due to lighting so I made my way back and worked there for the duration of the race.
By the way, what's the "Harveymushman" handle in reference to?
Cheers,
Chris.

"Harvey Mushman" is the alias Steve McQueen used when entering motorcycle races. Rent On Any Sunday.
