Canon 30D and BG-E2 grip - STUCK!!?

I have a Canon 30D and the battery grip... it was kind of loose when I first put them together, and I would constantly tighten the huge thumb screw. Well eventually the tightening must have been too much and it "popped"... now the thumb screw spins freely and the battery grip is ROCK SOLID tight... but I can't take the grip off!!

Anyone know of a way to get it off at this point? I really don't want to send it in for service, that just takes too long. I'm pretty geeky and don't mind taking things apart, but I can't find a single screw hole to get me started....

Ideas? (And thanks!)

    It sounds to me like the screw has been broken in half, probably at the head, let me think about it, and I'll try to think about what you could do to take it off...

    Though I will say, I think if you take it off, it will not be going back on... :D

    Might just have to send it back to Canon if you really want it off. Otherwise just leave it on and don't worry about it.

    (just the two thoughts that came to mind...)

    Well I was hoping to sell the camera since both are only a few months old - but keep the grip since it will work with the 40D... I suppose I could sell them together IF the person I was selling it too wanted them as one unseperable piece... :)

    OK... Well, if they are only a few months old and still under warranty, (if I were you) I'd be contacting Canon and see what they can do for me. They may even replace it...

    Yeah - I'm gonna call them tonight :) They have GREAT hours 6am until midnight Eastern time... good gosh... :)

    good point, that is probably your best route, they might be able to fix it, or replace it with another...
