Hi Everyone,

Slowly but surely the birds are coming back to the heat of the SouthWest. I am seeing more and more lately even though it is still in the mid 90's here. For a while it was 6 to 8 hours on the hunt without seeing a wing.

Here is an accumulation of some recent fly-by shots I've taken. I included a couple stills because they looked so cute. Hope you enjoy !!

    Thanks
Thanks for the comments, I'm looking forward to a great fall and winter when the Osprey, Eagles, Hawks and Pelicans, to name just a few, pass through our area or spend the winter. It's been slim pickens for a while now.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Nice series of flight shots. Some great wing positions/poses and detail in these. thumb.gif Wish a bit more attention was payed to the negative space (composition) in many of these. Some more space in front of the birds in flight would be nice. They are a bit tight/crowded on the crop/framing. They have little to no room for the bird to "fly in to".

    Hi Mike,

I crop these on purpose when posting here figuring most viewers will be more interested in the detail of the capture than the dead space in front or back of the birds.

Thanks for the great comments on my photos.

We don't get many Stilts around here, this flock has been hanging out for about a week. They are amazing to watch when they fly inches off the water and change direction in a blink. They don't fly much but when they do it is a treat.

They also imtermingle with the Ibis. When the Ibis move the Stilts move with them and visa versa. And then they hang together almost on top of each other. The flock of Ibis seems to be getting bigger over the past week.

Thanks again, I'm glad you liked the photos.

    Hi Marina,

I got lucky with some of the shots, they did come pretty close. I was using my 500 f/4 on a tripod with a full Wimberley while hiding under my camo cover for about 5 hours. The sun was in a good position for the Cormorants. Usually they come out totally flat because they are such a dull black color.

    Thanks much for the comments.
