(Please critique/comment on these, especially composition. All shot with the D200 and 18-70mm lens)

My family went to California late July and one of our side trips was to Lake Tahoe. This was our first time to that area. (CA and Lake Tahoe)

We traveled Highway 50 from Sacramento CA to Lake Tahoe. Beautiful drive with very scenic views! We stopped along the way and took some pictures.

Once there, my son went for a swim in the lake, even though the water was a bit cool! He saw some ducks and thought he could stalk them.

needless to say, they knew he was there and he splashed at them.

This was a small beach close to the Nevada border. The water was clear but it had some debris in the water, like algae or something?

So after a bit, we decided to check out some more of the lake. We got in the car and drove north/northeast along the western side of the lake. Beautiful drive! Very hard to keep my eyes on the road!

And boy, did we have to watch that road! No guardrails at all.

And then we saw the lake from up high....

And of course we stopped along some scenic viewpoints.

Then we found a campground that had a swimming area. This time the water was crystal clear with no debris. It was VERY nice and SOOO clear.

These are nice shots. The first two-thirds seem a conscious effort to avoid the centered composition of most vacation snaps. These images either lead your eye (as in the first two or three) and those following place the subject in an interesting, off-centered position.

Some of the latter images are a bit more mundane (in terms of composition) but, really, all are quite nice images that you can be proud of.

    Looks like a great time.

    I just got back...
I just got back last Wednesday from spending a week with my wife in S. Lake Tahoe. That is a photographers paradise. I took over 200 shots with my Canon 30D. Did you happen to take the gondola ride to the top of the Heavenly ski area?

    very nice photos.....

The lake is 72 miles around. And at every turn, something neat to see. Take
a walk up one of the many roadside trails for even more spectacular views.

I'm glad you and your family had the opportunity to visit one of the treasures
    of Californa & Nevada.
