I use RC2. The reason is simple, I use a monopod a great deal and on the monopod I use the Manfrotto 234RC swivel monopod head which has an RC2 plate on it. I've even replaced the Arca Swiss plate on my Kirk ballhead with an RC2 plate. Makes swopping between the monopod and the tripod easy.

A-S. It lives up to the high expectations. The why: it's the most solid, easy to use QR system I have encountered. There are so many options of compatible goodies between RRS, Kirk, and Wimberley I am starting to think of it as Legos for photographers. Really the only downside I see is the cost of the pieces.

I'll bet BigAl is the only person to take a A-S ballhead & convert it to RC2. Seems unnatural to me. headscratch.gif More typically either a native A-S ballhead (or Manfrotto head converted to A-S) is used, then a Manfrotto 3232 head on the monopod with an A-S clamp added.

Can't see why you think that the Arca Swiss clamp is the only one worth using headscratch.gif The one that came with the Kirk BH3 has no locking pin, and it worries me that the camera/lens can slide off the clamp if the locking screw is not tightened sufficiently. I've had two occasions already where I've moved the tripod and the ballhead has tilted forward - thankfully the camera did not fall off the clamp as the RC2 held firm. I find the RC2 more logical and easy to use as well.

As for doubling up on the clamps, I tried that with A-S and RC2 and it's very clumsy (as well as adding an extra flex point).

Huh? headscratch.gifhuh I did not say that. I also did not suggest doubling up clamps.

What I did say was that I prefer the A-S system now that I've started using it. I've used a couple of generic plate systems and IMHO (that is, my opinion) the A-S system is far superior.

I also pointed out that it's much more common to hear of people removing the clamps provided on Manfrotto heads and replacing them with RRS or Kirk plates. That's all. I'm certainly not looking for an argument or to try and make someone change their mind.

...guess I'm going to have to really go over my posts now, seems people are wanting to read meaning into them that isn't there. :(:
