Fair Pageant

My wife's sister was in the pageant at the local fair a couple of weeks ago and I caught these shots. The BW wasn't posed, just a lucky capture while she was talking to someone, but I liked the way it came out.

Water bottles were my enemy here... I managed to get rid of the one in the BW, but there wasn't much to be done about the other one. I got her to give it to me and I took a few more without it, but none of them had the spontaneity that the first one did.

I'm definitely still working on my people shots (heh, along with everything else, for that matter:D), so c&c are more than welcome.

    these are really nice-

maybe a 'pop' on either or both might be nice-

(davidto's tute in the 'how to' section)-

I agree with George. For example, the first one with a bit
    of rudimentary processing:

Thanks Bernard! I agree, that does look better. I think that I tend to go towards the yellow side of things for some reason. Not really sure why, but it's something I need to work on.

I actually did do a fair amount of PP on the image, but I still need a lot of work on skin tones.

    Thanks!

*goes off to read Baldy's skin tone tutorial*

hey! nice shots :D on the b&w one, i would try dodging her face and burning in the background so the face pops... also some more contrast. maybe darken the greens when you convert it to b&w to give it more of a separation.

how did she do in the pageant? ;)

Thanks! I'll give those a try, still expanding my PS repertoire:D

    Eh, She won:D

She's the kinda person that just kinda goes after something like that and gets it. She's got a great voice. You probably don't remember, but she sang at our wedding, and she's gotten a lot better since then.
