    I think these are cool shots, and I especially like #2, however (as you said) I'm not sure it fits either theme.

    Maybe an interesting crop of his chisled face and muscular torso? nice lighting. I like #1.

    Way Cool Shots!

    I like the lighting on number 2...

    but I think I would go with #1, I like the lighting more in this photo, and it also give your subject background separation.

    Number 2 tends to meld into the background to me...
