20D and Sunpak

I"m in the market to purchase a 20d but I'm having trouble finding out if my Sunpak 544 will work with the 20d. I've never used it with a digital camera and now I'm faced with the question, Does it work?
I've also seen articles saying that "some" cameras have a voltage issue with the large flash systems and I'd need something called a Safe Sync or something like that. How do I know if I need one or not?
The big question is does the 20D have a Sync port on the camera where my flash will plug in? I've used it on an old AE-1 forever and the AE-1 has the Sync port. That made my life very nice.
