Steel City 07 National Motocross
I took quite a few photos of the Steel City National Motocross in Delmont, PA this past weekend. Here's one.

The MX'ers around here would never race in those conditions, it might scratch thier graffics.
Nice shots.
Number 3 looks like a oil painting almost.
curious to know what kind of camera you were using and if you used the sports setting or full manual?
amadeus,
I used a Canon Rebel XT with a Tamron 55-200 lens.
I used Aperture Priority mode and set it to f/8 for sharpness. I started with the ISO at 100, but that made the shutter speed to slow, although picture #4 was one of the results of the ISO set to 100. I then set it 400 and left it there. I set the White balance for either daylight or cloudy, depending on what the sun was doing, I haven't started shooting in RAW yet. I used mostly manual focus, I focused on a section of the track and tried to keep the camera there when the riders went by.

Thanks for the comments amadeus. I think the choppy look is mainly the result of compressing the files for posting. The full size files look fine.
Nice pics!

j-bo, I like to apply the Unsharp Mask when I'm finished editing a picture, I like the way it makes a picture pop. The full size pictures actually look better.
Do you have any recommendations for sharpening pictures?
When roost is in the photo, I try my hardest to make sure Im on the rider and hope that the camera doesn't focus on the mud/roost. This will mae the rider sharper and leave the roost somewhat blurry, but so what! It's the rider we are interested in eh?
Here's some from Freestone Nat. I'll include a couple roost shots and it will hopefully explain myself better.
This is to the extreme end of things where the roost is too yucky.
A little better:
looks cool, but too much sharpening in pp, so much so, it hurts to look at it.
