Beautiful work, Dave. You nailed these and we all know how tough exposing for white can be.

Lovely shots of a very handsome bird. Great job getting the whites right in the exposure! thumb.gif Do you know if these migrate or do they stay put year-round?

    Thanks.

I believe these two stay here year round.. this crane is an endangered species I believe. they take the young ones to raise (dress all in white & feed them with a hand puppet like a real crane ) & teach them to migrate to Fla. There was a tornado down in Fla. last year after they migrated down there & killed a bunch of them.. I thought I read where they spotted 1 alive somewhere...maybe Harry knows morene_nau.gif

Interesting info here at the International crane foundation

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Well done on the detail in the white Dave! thumb.gif

Were these also taken at the Crane Centre? It looks as though the primaries have been clipped??

You are correct. They are extremely endangered. I plan on making a trip to Port Aransas later on this year where one of the few migrating colonies winters. Also, I heard about the cranes that were killed in Fla. I think 19 or so ending up being killed which is devastating to a species with so few numbers left.

    Thanks for the link.

thanks Al...yes ...they are breeding them & trying to set up a wisconsin to florida migration route that was lost when the population went down to almost nothing.

    great info on it here.........http://www.savingcranes.org/species/whooping.cfm
