Canon Speedlite 430EX vs. 430EZ - compatibility?

So I'm flash hunting for my new camera. Fairly sure I'll just go with a 430EX for now, as I don't really know what I'm doing. Flash is to go with my newly acquired Canon Powershot S5 IS, and perhaps with a digital SLR sometime down the road. The EX is listed as being compatible with the S-series powershots.

Along comes a local ad for someone selling a 35mm rebel, with a 430EZ flash. I inquired about the flash only, and they are willing to sell it.

For a while I thought I was on wheel of fortune in a parallel universe and kept buying the wrong consonant, but looking at pictures, the X and Z are truly different models. Apparenlty the Z is an older model.

Can any of you definitively say whether or not the 430EZ is compatible with an S5IS?

430EZ is a song from the past, sorry.
    It fit analog Canons only.

Of course you can use it as manual flash with all Canons
    and any other brand camera.
