February's Yosemite Report :)

Been up in Yosemite for a few days, I thought I'd give a quick report.
The snow is all but gone on the valley floor, The Wawona hotel is making renovations and is currently closed preparing to be invaded by dgrinners in May.

This is a shot I've been trying to get for three years or so, for two weeks every year at the end of February the sun reflects off of El Capitan just right to turn horsetail falls into a natural firefall.

Here's the Merced River with a reflection of an old friend

This is from up at Mirror Lake, it's a heck of a walk when you are loaded with camera gear, but well worth it.

Tunnel view looked a little different on Friday, this is not a B&W shot :):

and one last one for Harry.. It's not a Egret but it's the best I could do :D

Now I need to go pass out.

Awsome! I'm going up there in late March, as well as probably in May with the rest of the dgrinners. I'm encouraged by your photos that the snow won't be a problem (hopefully). I guess you never know, they might get another huge storm before then...

Ed these are good shots. I like the firefall and the reflection of El Cap.

    Thanks for the teaser!

We had a bit of a hail/ice storm Friday afternoon on the way up the hill, other than that the roads were perfectly clear. Let's hope it stays that way..

Thanks Andy, I did think about your people reflections while I was up there.
Here's one inspired by your photos.

that second pic is great man. im going to have to try that trick one day, instead of getting the moutain in the shot, reflect the whole thing in off the water.

I can only hope to progress to the point of one day being a second rate photographer, wish me luck.

A beautiful set Ed! 110103_smashing_prv.gifI don't doubt Andy's drooling - you're making the wait for everyone planning on May pretty difficult. Even more difficult for those who won't be there 36_1_30.gif

Thanks Nir, I wish there were a way for you to be there. Because no matter how many pictures you see, it just dosen't compare to the real thing. The scale of the place is incredible.

Even Ansel never seemed to quite capture it all, I wonder if that's why he shot there for so many years?

    Ed, drool, drool, slobber........

And I am not going, more beach shots, but with better equipment.

I love the blk and white color shot. I got one of those at a falls up in South Carolina, by the North Carolina border, years ago.

I put it in a frame, may still have it, may not. Went back many times and could not duplicate.

love your whole set, and the fireball water.
