Hiya, a while ago there were some threads about the 20d freezing up, and people having to remove batteries and re-insert to solve the problem... well it happened to me yesterday, and I've tried to search for the threads, but I can't find anything.

Anyone happen to remember what was causing this problem?

Need to update your firmware if you haven't already done so here is the link: http://web.canon.jp/Imaging/eos20d/eos20d_firmware-e.html

I had a few lockups on to 20D early on. I have kept up with the updates, and I can't remember the last time it locked up. It could still happen I suppose, but the frequency has gone way done. If it does happen a quick turn off, pull the battery and reinsert it fixes it.

    If it's any consolation...
I've had a few lockups, but I've kept up with the firmware as well and really can't remember the last time it happened.

Interestingly enough, my main issue with the 20D only happens with one lens, the Canon 85 f/1.8. I was getting very frequent 'err99's' with just this one lens. It turned out that it's a lens issue not a 20D issue though. This was confirmed when my 1D gave me the same error with that same lens. Happily, it has not happened on either body for quite some time. I figure that the contacts just had to get a little worn in (or something like that...).
If every keystroke was a shutter press I'd be a pro by now...

    Yvonne,

FWIW, my 20D had v1.05 installed and I've never updated it. I've only had two instances of problems. One where the camera locked up while in the review mode and a few nights ago, it locked up while uploading pics to my PC, (while switching between folders-my PC may have caused/contributed to this)using the USB cable. A simple battery R&R fixed both.

I've never had it lock up while shooting, or changing lenses so that's why I haven't upgraded to v1.1. With well over 8000 shots and probably 100 lens changes, with no problems, I really don't see the need to update. Like my Mama used to say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"....lol

Obviously, if yours is acting up, the upgrade might help :): I just wanted to let you know that not every 20D has this issue.

    Good luck,
    Steve
