Thanks, Shane. I just used matrix metering on the first with a little bit of fill flash from an on camera flash.
Gotcha! I am just getting into using my 580 EX. Everything up to this point is natural light and I have been so hesitant in starting to work with my flash. Any tips or tutorials for getting started with flash that have helped you?
Your shots of your kids are always so good and they are sure growing up! I always love backlit shots like #1. I am really loving the expression and the great eye contact you captured in #2!!!

Thanks, Saurora!!
I've always wanted to try backlit portaits. The sun was just perfect that evening. The trick for me was trying to dial down the flash so it didn't look too "flashy". I didn't have any of my off camera lighting with me.
That picture of my son is my favorite. It is certainly the best portait of him I have ever taken.
