Limited edition print runs?

Do you think it would be a possibility for Smugmug to introduce a limited edition print run feature? For instance when setting your pro prices you could enter an additional variable that would track sales and remove an image from sale automatically when the print run limit is reached?

I know this could be done manually by the user, but i wondered if there might be some legal implications if you advertised an image as a limited edition and then that print run over ran because you were unable to remove it from sale for any given reason (unable to access site etc.)

    Hi Charlie,

This sounds like an interesting idea, but I'm not sure on how this would work if the customer wouldn't be satisfied and we would have to issue a reprint. I think it would be best if you just move the image in question to a private gallery, so the SmugMug Helpdesk still could access it for reprint reasons. Then you could have the feature right away on your homepage.

Thanks for your reply Sebastien, what I think I'll do for now is take the order from the customer via another means and then place the order with smugmug myself, this way I can keep control.

You might also be interested in specific laws/rules regarding what can be called limited editions and what you might have to do beyond controlling the quantities sold.

See the web site at the Art Publishers Association for some quick information.

Thanks David, I'll take a look.
