In October 03 we spent a week in Scotland with some friends. We took a steam train one day and at the turn around I snapped this shot of the driver just standing there staring into the mountains.....

Driver.jpg

EXIF:
Camera Model: Canon EOS 10D
Date/Time: 2003:10:22 13:06:48
Shutter speed: 1/90 sec
Aperture: 4.5
ISO: 100
Focal length: 73mm

I've done some cropping and beefed the contrast a little.....

Enjoy.

I really like him... gives me a since of home, even though I've never been to Scotland, many people where I live have that hertiage. Priceless picture. You seemed to have captured a culture in this shot. Good job.

Have to add my compliments. The contrast of the blue shirt and the iron, well it almost looks like selective color at first. His face is very expresive. I wonder if a little sharpening, perhaps with the sharpening tool on his eyes, would make it even better.

    Great shot.

    Wow....

Your comments are very flattering and most welcome...

I'll do some reading up on the sharpening tool tonight when I get home !
I'm happy to snap pictures but not totally at home with the electronic darkroom yet ! (More used to that old B&W film stuff...)

I'll see what I can do with the image and post a revised version later.

    Great shot.
I also thought this was a selective desaturation job at first too! He stands out so much! Great framing on this shot. Don't be intimidated by the sharpening tool, just try it. :D

    Ok people.....

Did some reading then re-cropped so I had a similar image to work with...

Hit the sharpening tool and played with various results until I got to this...
(I also removed the boys head in bottom left of the picture...)

What do you think ? I sharpened his eyes as suggested, his cap and facial hair! I'm impressed by the changes.
If anyone wants the new cropped version (Un-touched) to play with, please let me know.. I'll make it available.... I'm just happy to learn !
