I recently got a new 580EX II and took these to try it out. All of these are shot using my Digital Rebel XTi and the Canon EF 85mm f/1.8.

Katz. Ceiling bounce with the bounce card. 1/100, f/2.8, ISO 100, manual settings. You can actually see the whole room reflected in her eyes.. pretty amazing. Unfortunately there is some clear purple fringing on her whiskers and on the bounce card reflected in her eyes. I think the solution to this is to use a somewhat smaller aperture.

Stretching... bounce flash with card. 1/100, f/2.8, ISO 100, manual settings.

Smithers looking moody. Program mode, 1/60, f/2.8, ISO 100. Ceiling bounce flash with card.

My primary problem with these shots has been purple fringing on the whiskers due to the high intensity light and wide aperture. Lessons quickly learned as I figure out how to use the new flash!
Canon Digital Rebel XTi
Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8L, Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS, Canon EF-S 10-22 f/3.5-4.5.
Canon Speedlite 580EX II, Custom Brackets Flash Bracket. 2x AlienBees AB800, ABR800.

Good way to test out your flash, good info on how to avoid CA too.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Nice images. That last pic is just so the stereotypical "look" for a cat. They are so smug. :D
