CC for sunset photos of Newport Bay

I am vacationing at Newport Or. The bay outside our hotel room is great and I'm trying to capture the scene. Any CC is appreciated since I am only here one more day. I am trying to balance the sunset with the lights at the marina and town.

I favor the exposure of the second shot much more. More importantly is how lucky you may be in capturing an interesting sunset. The one in the first shot just isn't compelling.
Newport is nice; I was south of there at Manzanita a couple of weeks ago. Highly recommended.
