Most of y'all are already familiar with Marc. He's one of dgrin's Artists in Residence, he leads our annual Shootouts, offers Workshops and often pipes in on The Whipping Post, Field and Street, and other of our fora.
Marc is an extremely talented and accomplished photographer, and a third generation landscape photographer. He has followed his family's legacy, but has also established his own unique place in the world of landscape photography. All that, and he's really just an all around great guy.
OK, enough ass-kissing. :wink
I drove out to Marc's studio to help him with Final Cut Pro (it's nice to be able to teach him something after learning so much from him), and while I was up there, I thought it would be great to introduce y'all to him (those of you who have not already met him) and also give you a chance to see where he works, when he's not out shooting. (Please note, these are all P&S quickie shots. Please don't get into critiquing them, I know they all stink. )
So, here's Marc at his studio, the proud owner:
You'll notice that the photography motif is everywhere, right down to the tripod as doorstop:
Once in the front door, you are greeted by Marc's gallery.
It's kind of tough to distinguish his gallery from the rest of the place, since there are beautiful photographs of his and his father's all over the place. Oh, and his mother's artwork (beautiful) as well.
Here Marc is at his workstation, doing what he usually does--pretending to work.
Marc checking a proof against the final print. (Well, he was doing a LOT of pretending on this shoot. )
Marc at the Epson printer.
The kitchen. Just to show that yes, there are photos everywhere. And Marc CAN make coffee.
Marc at the drum scanner. He can tell more about this process, but it's a major PITA.
A close up.
And for all you g33ks.
Marc still can't quite figure out the server room.
This is where they store the 250,000 transparencies that Marc and his father took. They're in the process of digitzing them, and then these will be moved to cold storage, freeing up space to expand (possibly as part of their Custom Pro Printing Service.)
Here's a custom print/canvas job they did.
Marc in the stacks.
And one of 250k.
They keep an archive of all of the editions of their books. Marc showed me a first edition of the first book his dad published. Cool.
And, of course, Marc has other duties, which include watering the plants.
Well, that's it! Hope you enjoyed the tour.

Andy, you'll notice that Marc's display is about 1/5 the size of yours....yet he still manages to get the job done.

So it takes 3 years of training to learn how to use the scanner improperly? I remember that tale.
Thanks for the tour! Very cool.

In going tourhg som of my boxes of stuff (8 months after the move & still a tons of stuff in boxes), and ran across a bookmark my wife bough several years ago a Zion NP. Who's the credit? Marc. I thought "cool, now I know who the photographer is" I really, really need to take one of the workshops.
