sending photos on spec

Just had an email request to send 17 (yes, seventeen) low-res, unwatermarked jpegs on spec to a guy so he could show a client to see if the client would be interested in purchasing them! :huh
Hmmmm... silly me. And here I thought that's what my website was for-- so people could look at the images to see if they wanted to purchase them.
So in all seriousness, I know sometimes art directors grab images off websites for mock-ups before they purchase them, but has anyone else ever had a request like this?
I emailed the guy back saying his request was not a service I offer but I do offer low-res images for sale as downloads. :wink
Just posting here to see how others would have handled this.

I think I would have been put off if this guy was looking to make money as a middle man. Then again, as long as you're still making your standard fee..
Except... that means I'm doing a bunch of work for free (ie on speculation, which means they 'might' buy something but they haven't yet). The photos are already on my website, just not all on the same page.
Seems like this is a little like asking to taste every dish at a restaurant before deciding what to order...
