Some Spoonbills in low light

Shot at Little Estero Lagoon, Fort Myers Beach, this past Friday and Saturday.

All shot against the light, with flash and Better Beamer. Flash is very important if you want detail in the bird, otherwise, you'll get a silhouette.

All shot with canon's 1d3 and 500/4
flash EETL between even to -1

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Great manipulation of the flash and the light. If it were me, I would have either gotten too dark with the flash or blown out the whites with the flash. One question...did you have the flash and beamer pointing right at the subject or did you have the flash and beamer tilted or slightly askew to the subject?

Thanks Fabs. I've read that great article on using the beamer over at Nature Scapes but I still at times overexpose with the beamer especially when the flash is pointed directly at the subject. You did a wonderful job handling the situation. I must remember to step down the EV.

Remember the BB only works ater 300mms, shorter than that and you will burn the subject.

I was using the Canon 550 on ETTL mode (roughly one minus by default).
Only full power when on manula mode.
