Im in Tiapai (sp?) airport atm waiting for Sf tin bird & they have Kingstone 8 gig 45x CF cards for $140 USD.

Is that about the going rate in a 'walk off the street' price for a US shop ? Or are they a bit cheaper in the US ?

140!!eek7.gif Holy hell... I got 133x kingston 8GBs for $50 each (sale)... and I think I paid around $100 each for my transcend 8gb 120x's. The transcends came from a reputable dealer, and the kingstons perform just as well so I think they are legit too. Screw 140... you can get much better deal!

If you're coming to San Francisco's Bay Area -- just visit a Fry's Electronics Store...

I love Fry's, but only buy the memory there when its on sale. Their "normal" pricing is usually terrible, but their sales pricing is good.

Get a Sunday paper and all the majors will have some on sale: I look at Circuit City, Comp USA, Staples, BestBuy, Office MAx, Office Depot. One of these will have what you want on special that week. Its almost seems like they rotate who gets to have a sale.

    Enjoy Cali!

When it comes to memory cards, there seems to be no shortage of ill-informed folklore and pure BS everywhere you turn. mwink.gif

The generally accepted authoritative source is Rob Galbraith whose site tells you the effective speed of most CF and SD cards with your specific camera body. That's what really counts! Only then can you decide what is value for money in your circumstances. thumb.gif

He also clears up the mysteries as to who the real manufacturers are (there are very few), who is merely rebadging real manufacturers' product as their own (there are many), and how to tell a fake from the real thing.

I understood that, Gus. It was just that the discussion had moved on to the merits, or otherwise, of Kingston, and what constituted value for money. Hopefully the Rob Galbraith site can be helpful to someone.

    Have a great trip! thumb.gif
