Scanner 8600F import 16bit. No it doesn't.

The Import of scanner images at 16bit is supposed to be a funtion of the Canon scan 8600F.

I have set the preferences in the Scan software to do so, but when the scans are made and automatically opened up as PSD's in CS3, they are already set at 8 bit.

I can THEN set the images to 16 bit, BUT I have been told that doing this at this point means that the information has already been lost. So, Does anybody know what gives and how to resolve it.

Thanks

according to the canon website, it is not possible to always get 16bit I guess, kinda weird:

If you really want grayscale and are hitting the issue Ivar pointed out, you could do what I did in the past with an off-brand scanner that behaved similarly: scan in color at 48 bit and then convert to BW in PS.

thanks for the bump and the investigation.

In response I am only scanning colour as 16 bit. and I am only scanning film so I should, if I consult the table, always be able to scan at 16bit.

Time to contact canon I think, I am seriously disappointed.

    thanks again for the response.

    Sam.
