I've seen allot of vartiations of this DIY RL flash. Good work though! I love the use of the metal tape to focus the light. Not to mention it's about 800 dollars cheaper than the one I want

Wonderful photograph, and ingenious ring-flash, but How'd you do the shot? How is it that only half the model's face is illuminated if you're shooting through the ring? I've gotta be missing something.

great ideas posted here, but I have yet to see a tutorial that is well written and easy to understand.. none of them do a good job of really illustrating all the steps. For example, in this example (haringphotography), I'm really curious how you are cutting a hole in the side of a metal shop light with a steak knife. Also, the description of fitting the plastic container to the shop light is not very clear.
