Hi Y'all,

Everytime I go out to the Viera Wetlands my good friend, Gale, always asks me the same question. Its always "Are the eagles back yet"? Everytime I go out there she asks that same question. I was there yesterday and....

your four basic eagle on THE TREE shots

Even better there are two of them. I missed the male by a few minutes. So we should have some eagle photo ops for MI V.

Despite the fact that I have already exhausted all the possibilities of the eagle on a stick poses I will probably take a few thousand more before the eagles migrate out of here. Is there some kind of 12 step program that will help?

Harry.. Absolutely Beautiful shots. Post as many as you take cause one can never OD on a beautiful eagle shot.

Tell you what, I'll trade you 4 Harriers for 1 Eagle.

I found this map the other day and was amazed by the number of breeding pairs in Fla.

We really are lucky here in Florida. My county, which is one of the most densely populated in the state, has 28 breeding pairs of bald eagles. I had no idea until last year when I checked our state registry. An active nest is just 1.5 miles from one of my offices!clap.gif

Hi Mitch, What does Florida do during breeding. As you can see by the map Arizona doesn't have that many pairs but we do have a nest here in the Prescott National Forest that has been used every year for years.

But the Forest Service blocks thousands of acres off as soon as the adults are sighted in the area. They block it off from about late November to June 30th with barrricades and signs at all access points to the forest area with the threat of $6,000.00 fines and jail time for crossing the barrier.

I have been talking to the F.S. about getting permission to go back in and do a photo journal of the nesting and baby eagles this year. I have talked to the head wildlife biologist stating that I know where the nest is and I know I can get great shots while staying far enough away so not to disturb them. I even volunteered to buy a new 600 f/4 to do it but I haven't gotten an answer yet. She said there was layer upon layer of red tape she had to wade through to get me a yes or no answer, but she did say that since they aren't on the endangered list there might be hope.. so I have my fingers crossed.

I was just curious on how they treat the huge number you have there in FLA, cause if they block that many off that would be a huge undertaking.

Thanks for the link. We have at least three pair nesting in our area. One couple keep flying over my backyard a few times a week. In nearby Sanford they recently took down three nests :cry because they felt they were a threat to the nearby airfield.
