Questions about Family Portraits

I'm a teacher and we are going to try and have a family portrait night at my school for a fund raiser. We have a Canon XT and XTi to use for the event. We are going to hang a background in our cafeteria for the background of the pictures. Our thought is to charge families (Donation) and then give them a CD/DVD with the pictures. Then the families can take the CD to a local place to make the pictures.

My questions are:
1) What kind of setup should I have?
2) What kind of lighting equipment should I rent?
3) What kind of flash should I rent?
4) What other types of equipment should I have?
5) Anything else that I'm missing or anything else that I should think/know about?

Thank you!!!

    1) What kind of setup should I have?
Your going to need some lights!
    2) What kind of lighting equipment should I rent?
Maybe 2 800w lights, a bg light and way to trigger them all.
    3) What kind of flash should I rent?
SB-800 or 580ex or go with some studio strobes.
    4) What other types of equipment should I have?
    More memory and extra batteries
    5) Anything else that I'm missing or anything else that I should think/know about?
Instead of sending them a CD/dontation, how about putting them on your smugmug site and charge them for the print, all proceeds would go to the school.

    Thank you ibcrewin,

I'm very new to portrait work and have never used anything this complex so the advice is appreciated. I'm not sure if the school will allow me to place the pictures on smugmug. I'll have to check.

    Thanks again,
    Matt
