Password protected galleries

I have installed the Google reader for a long time now using that RSS stuff.

There, I am able to know when one of my contacts / friends is uploading photos, Strobist has a new article, etc. etc..

Today I saw pictures - small thumbnails - from one of my contacts and I clicked on it.

Then I came to his page in SmugMug but - oh surprize - I was asked for a password.

My conclusion is:
I upload photos to SmugMug to a password protected gallery,
The pictures go to Google and it keeps them as thumbnails.

Am I wronge ? :dunno
Is there any other way to go around this ? :dunno
Or the solution is not to use protected gallery at all ? :dunno

It depends on if you have previously had that gallery non-passworded. It may have been picked up by google during that time.

You'll also need to set 'external links' to 'no' in the customize gallery page thumb.gif

    Isn't that a little - if I may say so - strange ?

I password a gallery for others not to see.

BUT if I forget to switch off the external links the photos appear in Google ! eek7.gifhuh

This is too much to me. :bash

    I can't understand this. headscratch.gif Or can I ? ne_nau.gif

I think what he means is the photos were cached in google before the
password was added so the links are known. Direct links to photos will work
from password galleries. But any photo added after PW is added google will
    not know the link.
