That's pretty darn serious. The amateur underwater shots I've seen have been rather bad. The light down there isn't very good. Makes me appreciate all the more the professional shots that look so wonderful.
You could always go $950 for a housing for a CoolPix 950.
Or $1,200 for a 300D housing (10d isn't out yet). And if you
want strobes, add another $1,500 for a couple (one is not
enough). Don't forget the mounting tray!
Of course you'll have to learn to dive too...
Some years ago, I used to dive some folks who were heavily into
U/W photography. When they went someplace it was with those
50 gallon Igloo coolers full of stuff. Pictures were top notch too.
Dived up on the Great Barrier Reef (got some old film pics here somewhere of a place called Heron Island) a bit but most of my other stuff was in the blackest of black....always wondering what was sitting 2 feet away sizing you up.
I think we can all take a bad pic on land & we get some sympathy & encouragement whereas a bad pic under water is just that...a bad pic.
You bloody bunch of mongrels in here have got me doing the DSLR head thing almost constantly now. I wont buy one for quite some time but when i get there i will be ready.
Heres a link to heron island...had some issues there with an 8 foot tiger shark...i mentioned it to the locals & they just laughed "you mean Barry" they said, "he's harmless

Great link! The whale story is simply amazing.
