So our first night watching the elk resulted in Nick's famous 'elf' shot. Y'all will need to ask Nick about it, and it probbly isn't rated G. But it was plenty humorous!
The next morning we shot sunrise from the Red Rock Canyon road. Skippy has shown a great shot, but I'll share this one anyway:
This is when Nick took the shot that is my avatar.
We drove up to the canyon parking lot, hoping to catch site of critters in the early morning light. And, we did:
We has breakfast in town - real breakfast, no more cereal or yogurt in the hotel room, right Nick & Christina?!
The afternoon was devoted to wildlife searches and a trip up to Cameron Lake.
We finished the shoreline hike at Cameron with enough time to make another run up RRC road, in search of bear. Took a very short hike around the top of Red Rock Canyon
and headed in for an early supper with the intent of shooting sunset as well (talk about a full day!)
We found Grandpa Ram at the ranger station on the way in to town
and got back out of town just in time to catch this sunset
along with a fantastic moonrise! I still have to get a grip on editing the moonrse shots (merging two )
There are more Waterton shots to come, from me and from the other 3!
Ann, I love the ram chewing on the grass. Nick, the IR shot of Cameron is great!
I actually took some time on this rainy, cold day to play with some photos. I'm practicing editing on the laptop so I'm not entirely sure how these look...panos were shot handheld and stitched with CS2's photomerge.
Our first view of the Prince of Wales Hotel.
And just for fun, the only edits done here are crop and exposure/shadow/contrast/saturation in ACR. Trying to make it look little spooky...
When Ann said that the mule deer were at the hotel...she meant they were AT the hotel, eating the plants right on the porch.
Would you have ever guessed that there was a mountain behind that hotel in the previous day's shots? The hotel was constructed in 1927 by the Great Northern Railway.
Sunrise on the road to Red Rock. Notice Skippy in the lower right corner?

Sunrise the second morning, over the elf...I mean ELK...fields.
One of my favorite birds of the trip, a friendly stellar jay.
Enjoying the trip right along with all of you. Some of your photos bring back fond remembrances of recent (Jul 07 - Banff) and not-so-recent (1999 - Head-Smashed-In) trips.
The next morning we shot the sunrise from the elk meadow. It was a glorious sunrise, probably the second best of the trip (after the first Patricia Lake sunrise)
and sunrise over Vimy Peak (I think thats what it is called)
Followed by breakfast, laundry at the laundromat, internet access at the internet cafe, a few souvenirs, and then our drive to Glacier. We crossed the border at the Chief Mtn crossing, perhaps fibbed about the jerkey we had with us, and met up with everyone in the lobby of the hotel about 2 p.m.
It was a great trip, full of fond memories and great shots.
Thanks, Maxine, Christina and Nick! You guys are the best travelling companions!
WOW! You saved the best for last, that's for sure!
I wasn't with you but seeing the rugged country in the middle of fall is taking me back, too. That is one beautiful sunrise and I couldn't imagine seeing light like that in a more lovely place.

You mean watching the Bears lose (Rex Grossman sucks!) on TV in Canada w/Spanish text? (You know I'm just kidding!)
My cajun chicken sandwich was gooood and the mountain lion in the lobby was quite cool.

I've got others as well. All the elfs had gone to sleep already. Don't even ask what Ann is talking about. You really don't want to know.
I posted this one in another thread earlier but thought I would put it here also.

Here's a Pano from Lake Louise.
I am so glad Ann took us there, we were in two minds not to go as the weather was really lousy that day.
Ann insisted we go, and we were not disappointed.
What an amazing sight, I'd only ever seen this kind of scenery in books.
Thanks Ann ..... Skippy

Thanks, Adam. It isn't in the shootout book, because it wasn't taken on the shootout!
Glad you like it! I am a fan of your work so this means lots to me. BTW, it's not handheld, not jpg and not one image! hehehe.

Don't worry, if you keep practicing, you'll be able to get shots like these
without using that inferior RAW capture method .

Ramblings About Me
Just killing time after class in the journeys thread! Things are going OK, I'm currently planning a trans-Balkan trip for October this year.
I'm not out shooting much lately, I snapped two ligaments in my ankle, so walkings going to be tough for the next six weeks!
