Just today someone left a comment on a photo in my flickr photostream:
"Just wondering how you would feel about letting me use some of your pictures on a new website I am creating for maury county. You can contact me at ***@****.net
Thanks!
Julie"
Being a total hobby fun type photographer, how should I proceed with this request?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Personally, I have let a couple of organizations use photographs that I have taken free of charge. I did this because they represented causes near and dear to my heart. I looked at it as a donation. It never hurts to give something back to your community. I did however, have them sign a limited use license. Basically I restricted the uses for the photos to those we had discussed (narrowly defined). I guess it boils down to if you feel you need to be financially compensated for your work or not.
The only advice I have is: don't ever sign away the rights to your work. I have known other photographers that have granted unlimited perpetual use of their images. That's something that makes me a little uneasy, unless the price was right:D .
Speaking of Flickr You might want to check out this thread http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=72069
I agree about the giving back. I suppose I should email her and find out more information about what she wants to do and then go from there. Funny, but the pictures she is talking about are random pics that just caught my eye....
