The Road To Glacier (And Back)
When the Glacier trip was announced, I made up my mind to drive out. For
anyone who's made the journey, you know the sights are worth it.
A short time afterward, Gus contacted me and we decided to drive out
together. We left on Monday from San Francicso. Crossing the Bay Bridge,
we headed East. Here are a few from the drive up.
Our first stop was at Donner Pass. What a stunning place. I've been a number
of times and each time, I see something new.
We stopped somewhere between Elko and Wells Nevada for a break.
Interesting place and cold too.
Our first night was spent in Pocatello Idaho. Pulling into Idaho, Gus was
shooting the mirror and getting some great shots. I tried that too but it
didn't work so well for me.
From Pocatello, we continued on to St Mary's and the shoot out.
When we arrived, Andy was busy talking to attendees nestled near
the fire. Did I mention it was cold? Very cold? Gus and I did hop out
for a couple of picks on the way up. Gotta process those
Our first day started early. We teamed up with Andy and at o'dark hundred,
we headed out. Andy's got the ticket with coffee in a can...
I shot one of the view from my room. Not bad eh?
Aside from shooting, there was time to hang out and talk about cars and
stuff. Here Gus talks to Dixie about the merits of his engine upgrades.
In addition to getting up at the crack of dawn, we hiked to get the shots.
The views were spectacular.
It always helps when there's a cold beer at the end of the day.
Smuggy made an apperance from time to time...
Did I mention the views? Oh my were they spectacular.
Here's my best attempt at a Lynnsite type of shot. Not nearly as good as
hers.
All too soon it was time to leave. The group met for dinner Saturday
night. Great food, some shots and great conversation.
Gus and I left for Yellowstone National Park on Sunday morning. Glacier
in the rear view.
West Yellowstone held the promise of a nights sleep and a meal before
touring the park.
We tried the fried pickles.
Our first stop was Old Faithful. It was pretty cold. -6.5 C to be exact.
I think it was worth it.
We stopped at a lake and watched it snow. Found a couple of boats still
in the water.
Out of Yellowstone and into Teton. Skunked. The weather prevented seeing
the Teton range. Oh well.
We stayed in Jackson Wyoming before making the long trip home.
We crossed Teton pass at 20mph. Snow.
Somewhere, I have other shots of the drive through Wyoming, Utah and
finally CA. It was a long day and the end of a great trip. A really great
trip.

I am consistently envious of your employer's willingness to let you have time to take great road trips. It looks like it was totally worth it.

To bad the weather didn't go your way in the Tetons. It was like that the first time I went there as well.

I would trade all the cherry ripes in Brisbane for a case of Fat Tire. Nice work you two

I know that beer is very subjective, but having had some fat tire while I was in Glacier, I can't say it's any better than anything over here in Oz.

wash your mouth out, VB is a million times better than budweiser
Perhaps cascade or james boags as an alternative to fat tire.
