Review of Simply Canvas

Although SmugMug provides an option for stretched canvas prints, if you want something a little out of the ordinary in terms of sizes then you'll need to consider a 3rd-party vendor. Yesterday, I received my first shipment of two canvas prints from Simply Canvas & am very pleased with the results.

I've written up a full review on my blog, complete with pics of them hanging on my walls:

Simply Canvas review

There are two prints: a 20x30" flower abstract and a HUGE 73x14" pano of Cincinnati. The pano is just too cool.

I'll be hanging these in a local coffee shop this month alongside some other photographs. I expect the canvas (especially the pano) to be a huge hit; I'll let you know how it goes! :hotfood

+1, and what perfect timing, too! I was just offered the opportunity to display some prints in a local shop also, and was thinking that canvas was the perfect way to go. I had just started doing some preliminary research on options/pricing, etc.

Wow, the customized options they offer are incredible - I love the idea of doing a triptych on canvas. They were super quick to approve my account, and between the newbie special coupons I received, their regular monthly specials, and the hidden "holiday" specials I found, I'll have some very attractive pricing for quite some time (especially since I'm not exactly high volume :D).

Thanks for the taking the time to do such a great review (and showing fantastic examples). I can't wait to see for myself.

I wasnt able to find the triptych stuff anywhere in their roes system, do you cut the file yourself and order 3 different prints or is there an easier way to do it?

Hmmm...now that you mention it, neither do I. They do make a pretty big deal of it on their product page, but I guess it's just because you can order the customer which allows you to do the triptych.

I've sent them an e-mail asking for clarification because my biggest concern in ordering it as three separate canvases would be that it all matched up properly after stretching. I guess it's a uniform process and should be okay, but it would be nice to know that we could at least note it as such on the order form and know that someone would check it before shipping (yes, I want Smugmug-level customer service from everyone now! ).

I'll post their response when I receive it.

I've got to admit, they respond quickly. You can split it yourself, or for $25 they will split it for you based on your desired overall size and provide you with a proof before printing.

    Here is their exact response:

If you would like to order a split panel, you have to note it in the instructions in ROES or our Simply Canvas site when you order. Please note how many panels you would like to split the image into and we will then contact you and send you a proof before it is printed. Here is the process if you are trying to split it yourself. Please call if you have any further questions.

You can order splits two ways:

1- You can the do split yourself and order each piece as a separate canvas on one order.

2- You can figure out the overall dimension, order it at that size then put a note in the order for us to split it and in how many pieces.
We will adjust for the 2 inch wrap overlap on each piece then you will receive, for your approval, a digital proof with split marks for position.
We will contact you if there are any questions.
There is a $25 charge for us to do the split and proof.

Pricing is based on each split piece as its own canvas. This can be checked in the custom size calculator on the web site.

--So I think it just makes sense to do it oneself, but nice to know that if you don't trust yourself to do it properly or are having a hard time, they will do it for you for a reasonable fee.

    Hope that helps.

    Ryan,

Great review! I'm looking forward to trying them in the near future. I also wanted to tell you that the pano of Cinci is incredible, possibly one of the best that I have ever seen. I have a lot of family from the area (my uncle was responsible for pooring the concrete for the old Riverfront stadium). If I wasn't so broke right now, I'd have one hanging in my house. Very nice work!

Thanks Travis, I really appreciate the compliments!

Note that I'll be putting online an option soon to order 62x12" & 31x6" prints of the pano that will be more affordable options than the canvas... thumb.gif
