Few shots

Ah I'm supposed to be taking natural light portraits for Yuri and Nik but it was late (after 11:30pm) and I'm also trying to learn manual flash, lamp light, etc.. Natural light soon! C & C Appreciated. Believe it or not there was a large reflector used for all of these.

6. this was a test shot, but she liked the way her eyes looked. May get colored contacts now lol... The histogram did not show this as blown.


7. This was also a test shot in the beginning where after I learned her scarf was wrinkled, but this was how her hair looked when she came home from the hair dresser.

I love #2: great lighting, pose, smile, eyes. Beautiful model and capture!

Evoryware, I will I try to give some constructive criticism. I’m no expert, just trying to be helpful.

1. I think this is close to being good, and with subtle changes could be a winner. I like the hand placement, but I’d lose the watch. The tilt of the head is a little too much. The light from back left looks about a stop too hot, and I might bring the reflector in a little closer if possible. Finally, she seems to be sitting back. If she could sit up, and from the waist lean a little towards the camera, this might pull her head up and out of her shoulders.

2. I like it. But I'm wondering why ISO 1600 at f5? Why not open up to f2.8 and lower the ISO?

3. Very nice. Short lighting works for her.

4. Seems like this girl looks better with short lighting, as in #3, where the light is coming from the side that you don’t see the ear, rather than with broad lighting, where the light is coming from the side that you see the ear (if the hair wasn’t covering it).

5. Too centered, don’t love the double catch light, but nice expression.

6. Light is too hard, nose shadow shows hard edge on upper lip and cheek. (See Rembrandt show at Met. I went last night just to study how they handled this – great show.)

7. Even lighting and a little hot.

Also, 1 and 6 look too red, noting the hair color in the others. Hope this is helpful in some way. Keep shooting.

Re. #2: The lens was a F3.5 - 5.6. 5.0 was the lowest I could go at that focal length. Also, I'm using 2 60w bulbs, one for her hair and one for her face and shooting handheld because my tripod clip broke.
#2 and 3 are just about the same lighting, infact she turned more into the light, but I didn't like the first shot result so I asked her to redo the pose and the slight adjustment in shutter and aperture made a nice difference.

No arguement for the rest of the comments!
