Just wanted to interject that I use joker.com and found it easy and clean. I think it's $24.00 for two years to have the domain name. They also set up my email forwarding and it was a breeze. SmugMug also helps with that. My email address stated on my site and my business cards, mick@burkeyphoto.com , goes right to my hotmail account. No problem. But it is a hotmail account. More complicated accounts may have problems. I don't know.

As for setting up the actual site, I bought into a Pro account right away and the wonderful folks at SmugMug were / are amazing in helping to get exactly what you want. My site, at the moment anyway, is pretty straight forward. But I don't think there is any problem or idea they can't work out with you. It certainly helps to at least understand how certain simple code works, like making a new paragraph, inserting an image or photo, etc. But believe me the folks at SmugMug are all about helping. And you'll learn. I could not have done it without them. The forums for SmugMug Customization, and the fourm for Pro Support are where you will get real help.

And I'm not being compensated at all for these words .... yet. mwink.gif

Let me explain this a little more.
If you use a "Theme" from smugmug, this is like a template for different pages of your website. It acts much like certain web design applications (Dreamweaver, for instance) in that you simply type info in, like your bio, and smugmug fills in the necessary code to make it look right on the web.

If you want to get more into customizing your website, the smugmug folks are here to help. And they are very good at helping, in my experience. Once you have the pages customized, you can change things like the picture displayed on your home page simply by replacing the image address in-between the code definitions or the words in your bio.

I relalize this may still sound complicated, but it's not. And, like I said, the smugmug web gurus are really there for you.

Hope this helps a bit, and I say "give it a try". It's really fun to see your ideas, designs and photographs on your own website for the whole world to see.
