CNAME issue with Register.com

I did a search for register.com in this forum and only three hits came up, none of which helped solve my problem.

Also, the screenshots from the custom hostname instruction page for Register.com are outdated. Their website UI has changed, so the steps are no longer valid.

Here's what my web site forwarding page displays:

MY SERVICES :: WEB SITE FORWARDING

spacer.gifYOU ARE MANAGING:
coolbeansphotography.com :: Basic Web Site Forwarding

coolbeansphotography.com points to http://www.smugmug.com
www.coolbeansphotography.com points to http://www.smugmug.com

And on my control panel I have:

domain: www.coolbeansphotography.com | change

It seems that I have everything correct, but it's been six days and both urls are only going to the main smugmug.com site, but not the www.coolbeansphotography.smugmug.com site. NOTE: Register.com is automatically adding the http:// in front of www.smugmug.com, so I'm following the directions exactly...

Any suggestions?

You need to do a CNAME, not domain forwarding. I'm not familiar with register.com, so I can't help exactly on where to do this, but google gave this, which may help

yeah, sorry about the screenshots, we can hardly keep up. I did those when I used register.com - have since switched (painlessly) to godaddy because register.com was horrible at support, couldn't a-record.

Anyhow, I'll sort you out. Email our help desk, attn: Andy and we'll get 'er done!

No worries - Scott was right on the money. I'm sure it will start forwarding correctly in a day or two.

I assumed that the web site forwarding was their layman's term for CNAME, which was incorrect. I wonder if I should disable their Web Site Forwarding service, then? It seems like it's redundant if both are enabled...

    Thoughts?

I don't know without seeing it firsthand, but I'd remove ANY forwarding and only leave the CNAME.
