Hi,

I'm thinking about opening a pro gallery here and wondered how the dollar pricing works for other UK based members?

Does it put your clients off? Any tips? etc....

Many thanks
Jo

    Hello Jo & welcome wave.gif

In the absence of a reply from anyone else in the UK with a pro site I'll step up and share my somewhat limited experience :)

I signed up with a Smugmug Pro account in December 2006 as my previous site was in dire need of a makeover and I also wanted the unlimited storage. I've had a site in some form since around 1998 I think, and sold prints through various galleries and one to one since at least 1988, this ceased in 2005. One of the things that attracted me to Smugmug was the ability to sell direct from the site, and I decided that this was they way to go, rather than the commitment in both time and money to offering prints through galleries - usually on a commission basis in this part of the country :((

To date I have had very few sales, in fact I've never had great success selling prints via the internet, but actually I don't mind because I have a really professional looking website that I could never have created without the help of the people here on Dgrin. Iam proud to refer people to it and am complimented on the professional appearance of it.

I really like the Smugmug ethics (or is it ethos ?), I'm happy to buy into their product and service, I feel comfortable with the product, people and the prints should I sell a few more. Dgrin is the best forum I have ever come across too. So I'm here to stay, whatever :)

I believe it depends very much on your type of business, I've never been a portrait, wedding or event photographer - I would expect that if that is your line of business the dollar pricing should not be much of a problem.
Its surely worth giving Smugmug a try ? its such good value for money and with all the extras such as being fully customizable, the best support imaginable and a secure home for your pics, what more could you want ?

Sorry this is not directly applicable to you but I hope it helps.
