I have a Nikon D50, and this weekend it really started to act up.

First thing it did was not let me take pictures while it flashed ( F F ) on the top right corner of the gauges.

All of my pictures were then gone.

Then it started working again, but it told me i have over 1000 pictures left which is wrong.. So I started using it again and it let me review the new ones;.

But then when i hooked it up to my Computer all the pictures were there???

so what is messed up you think, the card? the camera? hmmm....

If you delete images in camera, that can lead to a corruption of the FAT tables used by the translation layer of the chip's controller to report remaining space.

    Regardless of the cause:
Copy all the images onto a hard drive.
Verify that the images are OK.
Backup the images onto CDs or DVDs and verify those image files.

Once you are sure that you have the images safely copied onto two (or more) technologies and that they are verifiable and usable, format the card in camera.

If you continue to experience problems, there is probably something wrong with the card.

    To avoid a recurrence:

Try not to delete images in camera.
Try not to completely fill a card.
Always format the card in the camera before a serious use.

If you follow those simple rules, you can avoid most failures except an actual card failure.

Worth repeating. Nothing but trouble, in my experience.
