My hubby surprised me by renting a MPE-65 for me for one week. What a great lens! I got better at using it toward the end of the week. My biggest obstacle was the constant Kansas wind--UGH! I will definitely own this lens--some day. Here's some of my pics....

Funky little lens, eh? Did you get to use it with the twin light setup? The focus lights it has are invaluable when you get down in the iffy 4-5x zone.

Looks like you had fun :). It is a wonderful lens.
You can get most of the range of an MPE-65 using a combination of extension tubes and a reversed 50mm lens with a normal macro lens but the MPE-65 is easier to use.

No twin lights. I used sunlight, mostly. I played around with 3-5x, but used with the 1-2x more--due to my learning time constraint and the wind factor. Good to know about the twin light, though.

    Thanks.

Yes, I did have fun! Wish I'd had more time. I did photograph some insects--small spiders, a hover fly, etc.. But, the wind made it difficult to get even one sharp image, let alone any stacking possibilities--still could see the major potential though! And, my sensor is very dirty!--could not "miss" it with this lens!!

Since I usually like to know these things, but where did you rent from? :D

We are thinking about carrying that lens, but weren't sure if there's enough demand for it...

It is a specialized lens for shooting macro images. I'm not real good at explaining it--maybe someone else can do a better job?

I don't know if the demand would be very high or not. I (my hubby) rented it from LensRentals.com. I'll add you guys to our rental list, and check you out the next time we want to try before we buy.
