It's an expressive capture. The shadow is very dark on my monitor, which makes it hard to read the expression. Maybe use some fill flash the next time or try to shoot in softer light.

    Cheers,

I just imagine how great the shot would look with a boat mast or dock in the background as opposed to a building and balcony. The guy screams of tough man of the sea. The light it was shot in is too harsh for my tatse, but it does kind of provide this nice contrast as well.

    well done.
Disclaimer: Just because I have an opinion, that doesnt mean I'm right.

Did you use USM on this or Smart Sharpen? I'm trying to figure out how you got it so insanely sharp.

Can you also feed us some camera settings?

Kevin. I shot it wih a MKII, Canon 70-200 f/4, 1/500, f/6.4, iso 125. sharpened with 2 layers on set to Darken and Usm, the second set to Luminsity and Smart sharpen.

Actually I fogot to point out that the shot had also a capture sharpening during the conversion from Raw (C1's default). I don't think you'll find anything around about this technique but please feel free to email me or PM for more details.
You'll probably already read it, bt speaking about sharpening, makes me immediately think to the fundamental Bruce Fraser's
Real World Image Sharpening with Adobe Photoshop CS2
