Anybody ever try Lightbox on a Linux box? Is it slow for you?

Weirdest thing:

Lightbox view is one of my favoritest things about SmugMug. Heck, I like it so much I hacked together my own view of Phanfare to do that same thing:

Fanphan Gallery of an Ozomatli Show

But here's what's weird. On an Ubuntu 7.04 Linux machine, w/ Firefox 2.0.0.6, every site that uses Lightbox (or Litebox or the Triptracker.net slideshow widget) slows the machine down to a crawl. The Xorg process starts going nuts with CPU usage, and until I close the floating transparency thing, the box is basically unusable.

Has anybody else ever seen this kind of thing on a Linux box? w/ Mozilla? Clearly it has something to do with the transparency/opacity stuff that YUI, script.a.licious, etc use. But I couldn't find anything about it w/ Google.

Thanks!

I should've thought to try this before, but yeah, happens with Opera too. Must be something funky with the X server.

Turns out it was a driver issue. I was running X, but without the accelerated nVidia drivers for OpenGL. It was a pain the butt getting them installed, and whenever I do an upgrade something always messes them up again. But yeah, that was the issue.
