This was take right after it started to snow in April, 2003 as I was driving south on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Sorry, can't find the exposure info tonight, but will add it later when I've located it.

I like the composition and the mood of this shot. It's almost B&W, with a nice green touch to the vegetation.
enjoy being here while getting there

I tried rendering it in B&W, but for some reason the photo just loses it pizazz when I did it even though the exposure, etc. were technically correct. There was just something about the touch of color which appealed to me with this photo.

The other thing that I've always liked about this shot is that it is what I call a "discovered" photo op where I was just riding along and the photo just jumped out at me as I was driving by. I turned the car around and went back and got out in the cold and snow and set up the tripod (as I recall the exposure was somewhere close to a ½ a second to a second in duration with the aperture really closed down (that's the way I tend to shoot scenics) and took the photograph. I keep notes on times of day that the light is best, etc. for different locations and actually plan out most of my shots in advance, but this one just happened.

I discovered a long time ago that I am more satisfied with my photo treks if I always plan a day or two extra just for scouting photo locations and planning them out for the best time of day, lighting, etc. If I don't and do what is basically a drive by photo shoot, I find that for the most part I am disappointed with the overall results of the trip.
