A weekend in Cades Cove
I've been looking forward to this past weekend for a while. For once, I was taking a trip that was centered around photography instead of just getting some pictures in around a vacation.
We went to Cades Cove in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. I knew that it was going to be a little too early for the foliage, but there are so many things to see and do.
I started with just a short drive on the loop road with a quick cutoff on Sparks lane.
We setup camp and decided to take another drive through the cove to see what would turn up late in the day. We came upon a small parking area that had several people sitting around in lawn chairs just waiting for something to happen. We heard stories of 12 point bucks, heards of deer, and momma bears with their cubs playing around. All of this in the field right in front of us. So, we waited and waited...
After an hour or so, we finally gave up and decided to continue on around the cove. We finally found a few dear on the far side and tried to make the best of the setting sun.
The next morning was a short hike to see if there was any water flowing on the Middle Prong river. To our luck, there was still some water in there.
Later that evening was a drive to the Foothills Parkway for some sunset shots.
Next up was an early rise and shine to do the loop again. This gave us the opportunity for early morning fog shots and some wildlife.
That's about it for my trip up to cades cove in the GSMNP.
Thanks for taking a look.

Ramblings About Me
Nice shots. Headed there tomorrow for the next two days for some early foliage. Still about 2 weeks shy of the colors where I am.
I enjoyed seeing your pictures. They are especially important to me since my ancestors (STANTON and ERWIN families) were early settlers in that area. These families settled in the late 1700's to the very early 1800's.
Glad your trip was successful!
