Good things come to those who wait! :clap
AFAIK, both RRS and Kirk are ready with a body-only 40D L-brackets (actually, they have been for a few weeks already), and they both also gonna start shipping the one for the 40D body+ BG-E2(N) grip starting October 16 (Tuesday) or 17th (Wednesday).

Since I never take it off I think I stay with Kirk model despite $10 price premium (which is almost nothing at $160 price base), provided they keep two-anchor design, of which I happen to be a great fan. However, if you switch it on and off often (or have other RRS equipment), RRS is probably the way to go. :deal

I've looked at the photos of the Kirk and RRS and I can't tell what the "two-anchor" feature of the Kirk looks like. Can you talk me through it?

If you're an RRS user already. The RRS brackets have markings to help
center the camera on the head. Kirk brackets don't have them.

Both are well constructed both fit and finish. Pricing is similar enough that
it doesn't matter one way or another.

They have a little metal tab that hooks through the camera strap loop on the side part. Supposed to make it more rigid. My 20D+grip RRS L-bracket is plenty rigid & I have not felt the need for it to be attached there. RRS has other features I prefer (the markings, threaded hole on both sides, longer dovetails). Hmm...looking closely at hte RRS site it seems the brackets for gripped bodies are much bettter realized than those without, at least IMHO.

    Update
Both Kirk and RRS have L-brackets for 40D with grip in stock now (Kirk's website is not updated yet).
Unfortunately, Kirk's new design does not include the second anchor point, the one that sold me on their 30D version. With that in mind RRS solution becomes pretty much a slam dunk, especially since I want eventually to get their pano stuff, which nobody else seem to have.
    Order sent! :ivar

    I like the "small guys"
Barely two hours later, my order has been shipped! Given RRS is here in CA (maybe even SoCal), I expect getting it this week, if not tomorow... wings.gif
