LPS #14 - Please give me your opinions

I know that #14 is over, but I didn't realize that until today :( I'm a complete noob, both here and in the world of photography in general, so I would still like a critique if that's okay so that I can improve for next time.

This would have been my entry - Please share your thoughts. Be as harsh as necessary!

    August, great job looking for the abstact in the horse!

    My view is that the overall shot is too bright, with not enough dark to balance it, and not enough contrast to make the fine detail of the bit a strong image.
    As for if it fits the theme of LPS 14, it's a stretch. Now LPS 15, that's a different one..

    ....and the bubbles (saliva) in the lower right corner needs to be cropped out.
