Ok so no microphone. Just sharing a few shots. I was practicing a few lighting techniques and here's the results.

pretty cool looking...out of curiosity, what was your lighting set up? Did you get the results you were looking for?

    Jen,

I used three Vivitar 285HV flashes on these shots. One was sitting on the laptop screen. The second is on the background with a blue gel. The third is in a 16" Apollo Westcott Softbox overhead (main light, 45 degrees to the head). I visuallized what I wanted and setup the lights accordingly. I did get the results I wanted and then some. I wasn't expecting the big shadow on the wall but I like it.

Lately I've stopped referring to a specific light setup for shots. I just think what I want for the final result and go from there. I'm getting much better results.

I dig it! interesting lighting, composition... good stuff.

    couple comments, may I?

I can see a bunch of noise in that open laptop. High ISO? Seems weird, but not overly distracting. Nothing like that floor! If that were my shot, I'd crop that floor right out, it's really busy and is taking away from the subject. Another positive of cropping out the bottom of the photo, it would remove the lensing effect from your table. I'm pretty sure that's not an oval-shaped table.

Oh, and the big shadow, really nice, great effect thumb.gif

I actually shot this at ISO 100. The laptop was dark in the original because it was not being lit directly at all. The post processing made it look grainy. Though it is grainy on screen, the print came out acceptable. I did realize the table is distorted due to the lens barreling. I actually wanted it more rounded but I haven't got a fisheye yet. :D. I tried to darken the floor using a vignette. Again in the print it came out a better. All the post processing was done in Adobe Lightroom. No photoshop at all.

Nice! I love the humor in this, whether or not it was intended. Given the title, I'll say that it probably was. :D

The lighting/shadow on the wall takes this photo from good to great. thumb.gif
